Assessment and tools for optimising spring-time water release from the Dniester Reservoir

Water is critically needed in the lower part of the Dniester every spring to sustain fish spawning and the ecosystems of the delta. The analytical report looks into ways to meet often competing or contradicting demands and conditions for water release,  examines how this could be optimised, and what knowledge and information may be missing for sound and participatory decision-making. A simple spreadsheet-based ‘release flow calculator’ helps quickly gauge and compare various options, thus facilitating often difficult discussions between the different parts of the river basin.
