Reporting on the state of the environment in Afghanistan
Afghanistan’s law requires that a national state-of-the-environment report is prepared every two years for urban areas and every five years for rural areas. Yet the latest report of this kind dates back to 2012. Zoï has supported the UN Environment Programme in kick-starting the development of the next report and setting a longer-term process to make the preparation of such reports sustainable. The three-day inception and training workshop in Kabul (4-6 March 2019) raised enormous interest among more than 70 participants from Afghanistan. The workshop was also attended by specialists from the neighbouring Tajikistan which, with Zoï and UNEP’s support, recently completed a similar report too.
The second document is a road map for state of the environment reporting in Afghanistan, prepared in support of the National Environment Protection Agency following the training workshop in Kabul in March 2019
